Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Transport & Works, Brent Bailey, has said that the Coastal Zone Projects which are being undertaken across the country are very important as the country loses a significant amount of land to the sea every year.

Mr. Bailey told NBC news that a number of coastal communities are currently under threat from the sea and this situation needs to be addressed.  He said that
data shows that the sea has reached up to thirty feet away from the main road in some cases.

The Chief Engineer said that the country is losing close to ten feet of coastal lands to the sea every year and this is a serious issue which must be addressed, and that in some cases where houses once were in the past is now sea water.

Mr. Bailey is currently in Jamaica holding discussions with consultants on the development of these coastal projects.
