The Nation Road Rehabilitation Project (NRRP) now in its second phase, has identified a number of roads valued at 70 million dollars, to take to cabinet for approval.
So says Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Lands and Surveys and Physical Planning, Honourable Montgomery Daniel.
Speaking on NBC Radio, Minister Daniel says that the roads identified are not all which require work; however, they are the ones that can be completed within the range of funds to be allocated.
"The NRRP of course in its second (2nd) phase, they have already identified a number of roads over the value of 70 million dollars which will come to cabinet for approval very shortly bearing in mind that the Prime Minister would have gotten an amount of another 120 million dollars for road repair works to be done in this country under the second (2nd) phase for next year; and so, the NRRP Unit, they are working to ensuring that all of the roads that can be facilitated under the quantum of the 120 million dollars for approval for works for next year. Of course, I will say to you, a number of these roads that have been identified, they are not all of the roads."
Daniel notes that the Arnos Vale bridge will be one such project under the NRRP.
Minister Daniel is reminding motorists, particularly truck drivers, that no truck above 2 tons is allowed to use the Arnos Vale bridge leading to the tarmac, to protect its structural integrity.
He adds that work will commence on the bridge in the first quarter of next year.
"The assessments are being done at the moment in terms of updating as to what was done before and the bridge project will be a part of an overall project in improving the access in that area. As you might be aware the new hospital is now being built there and there is a complete design for the development of that area. In the meantime however, I have asked the police to step up up on their work at the entrance at the bridge in Arnos Vale, to ensuring that heavy vehicles do not cross the bridge area. If the bridge collapses, it's going to be a nightmare for all of us as a traveling public."
