Work on the Dickson Bridge in Georgetown is expected to be completed by March 3rd of this year.
Minister of Transport, Works, Lands and Physical Planning, Montgomery Daniel made this statement while responding to a question in Parliament recently.
Minister Daniel said while there were a number of challenges with the work being carried out by the Contractor (Hutchinson Construction), these issues have been resolved and work on the project was scheduled to resume.
"The Dickson Bridge contract was awarded to Hutchinson Construction for an amount of two million, two hundred and sixty-five thousand, four hundred and seven dollars and eighty-seven cents ($2,265,407.87) VAT inclusive. The contract commenced on August the 14th, 2023; a work suspension order was issued on 6th of November 2024 due to repeated failure by the contractor to present timely fashioned concrete test results. The contractor has since submitted satisfactory test results, and a recommencement order was issued on the 11th of December 2024 with a restart date of the 6th of January 2025."
Minister Daniel said work on the Dickson Primary School retaining wall is expected to begin in June of this year after the tendering process is completed.
"The Dickson School retaining wall is being funded locally by local loans, the deadline for the submissions of tenders was 19th of December 2024. At the deadline for submissions no tenders were received. As a result, the project in keeping with current procurement rules, will be re-tendered. After the tendering process goes out by January of this year, work is expected to start on the Dickson School retaining wall in June 2025."
