The Electrical Unit in the Ministry of Transport, Works, Lands and Physical Planning has officially launched a month of activities for Electrical Safety Month.
The month of activities is being held under the theme “Electrical Safety is in your Hands, Protect, Preserve, Prevent.”
Acting Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel says while electricity is an important resource in people’s daily lives, it must be consumed correctly in order to enjoy its benefits.
"In order for us to enjoy these benefits there is need for us to protect, to prevent and to preserve this resource. Interestingly, a report came to me as the Minister, where, here in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, that at the unit were applications are made both for temporary and permanent establishments of connections for electricity... A report came to me that there well over five thousand (5,000) temporary connections that are expired."
Minister Daniel is encouraging persons with expired temporary connections to do what’s necessary to prevent hazards that can occur.
"It is important to protect yourselves from hazards that may occur given the resource to be used in your own home and as I indicate, electricity in my opinion, is an important resource for our daily livelihood not many of us may be able to survive well without electricity on a daily basis, but we have to do it right. And so, the department is really urging defaulters put to right this kind of action to prevent disasters going forward. It is important that, that is being done for the safety and for the protection of lives and livelihood."
