Minister of Transport and Works, Montgomery Daniel is appealing to people on the Grenadine island of Union Island to work along with the relevant stakeholders, as rehabilitation work after hurricane Beryl continues.

He made this appeal while speaking during NBC Radio’s 'Face to Face' programme.

Minister Daniel said he recently visited all of the schools on Union island, where work is ongoing and materials which were sent for work on the Mary Hutchinson Primary School disappeared.

He said the Buildings, Roads and General Services Authority (BRAGSA), had to send a second quantity of materials in order for the work to continue.

"We visited all of the schools in Union Island and in particular we visited the Mary Hutchinson School, which seems to have the challenge to which we had the report. BRAGSA which has the overall contract would have sub-contracted to a contractor and BRAGSA would have sent materials down for work to be done on Monday. The materials arrived and went on site on Monday, and by midday on Tuesday some of the materials disappeared. So immediately BRAGSA had to re-order and to have materials down. And the materials arrived to which the contractor continue to a lot of his work."

Minister Daniel said he also recently received a call that the electrical mains at the Mary Hutchinson Primary School were tampered with.

He is further appealing to residents on Union Island to work along with the relevant stakeholders, as the Government continues the rebuilding effort after the devastation caused by hurricane Beryl.

"On Monday I got a call indicating that the mains in the building has been tampered with. Now, it is unfortunate when you have a civilized society, that these things happen. And so, I can only urge our people, letting good sense prevail. And that's why I always reflect on our history. We as a people, we have to fashion our future and do not think as an individual that you can strive to make the lives of other people unhappy and yours will not be unhappy."
