Minister of Transport and Works, Montgomery Daniel said work is progressing well on a number of projects across the country as part of the Government’s National Disaster Management (NDM) – Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation project.

He has encouraged Vincentians to take a drive out to the Windward side of the country to see a number of these developmental projects.

Minister Daniel said one of these projects is the North Union Bridge rehabilitation where work is currently progressing well.

"Under the NDM Projects works are continuing at pace. Take a drive on the windward side and see what's happening. Well, at North Union where the bridge works are now being done there, works are progressing well. The Civil Works are coming together. The drains and so on, they are shaping up well at this time, and things are beginning to look well on that project. The bridge at Union, at Lowmans as you pass there, that work is progressing well."

Minister Daniel said work on the Perseverance Road located in Georgetown, is also progressing very well.

He said there are five bridges to be repaired on the perseverance road and this work is expected to begin before the end of this year.

"The Perseverance Road, which is further north and inland, that same road that take you from Mt. Bentick Shop into the Valley area, and then you move further inland where the CWSA water catchment is located, I can tell that the work there is tremendous. The work on that project is going ahead nicely. It's a beautiful piece of road that you can drive on, its almost five kilometers (5 km) of road, and there is one section of that road which was eroded under the 2013 flood. A wall had to be built up from the river, well over sixty feet (60ft), and that wall is pretty much about ninety percent (90%) complete. There are five bridges to be repaired and the tendering process is in place and we should have work actual starting at the end of the year on these bridges."

The Government of Saint Vincent and The Grenadines has received financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in an amount equivalent to USD 25.9 million towards the cost of the National Disaster Management (NDM) – Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation Project.
