Work on the Sandy Bay Sea Defence project is said to be progressing very well. That’s according to Minister of Transport and Works, Montgomery Daniel.
He said this work forms part of ongoing projects across the country, under the Government’s National Disaster Management (NDM) – Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation project.
Minister Daniel said the first phase of work on the Sandy Bay Sea Defence project has been completed and the second phase is about eighty-five percent finished.
He said works are in the early stages on the third phase of the project.
"The Sandy Bay Sea Defence Project that is moving ahead, the works are moving ahead well Lot one (1) is basically complete, Lot two (2) is approximately eighty-five percent (85%) or so complete and with Lot three (3) of course works has just commenced. So it just six (6), seven percent (7) complete at this time. I'm sure that the residents in the area of Sandy Bay area they are happy in terms of what they are seeing, the progress of the work there."
Minister Daniel said residents of Sandy Bay are looking forward to the completion of the Sandy Bay Sea Defence project which will ensure that there is no further erosion of land in the community, by the sea.
"We look forward to the results of that major project, where some forty or so million dollars will be spent on that project to enhance the safety of that village of Sandy Bay. Though the work has been proceeding well, we continue to look forward to the stability of the land area there and to prevent the further erosive action of the sea, that is on the Atlantic Coast."
The Government of Saint Vincent and The Grenadines has received financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in an amount equivalent to 25.9 million US dollars, towards the cost of the National Disaster Management (NDM) – Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation Project.
